Wake windows

Daytime naps for your little one become more consistent by this week. The time in between your baby’s periods of sleep are known as wake windows. Although there is some science behind the concept of a wake window, it’s important to have realistic expectations about how fluid this concept is. As a result of our biological regulator, sleep-wake homeostasis, sleep pressure builds during periods of wakefulness. There are some common time intervals that babies of certain ages follow for wake windows, but it’s more important to pay attention to your baby’s routine and sleepy cues. Also, because every day is different, nap lengths vary from day to day which also impacts your baby’s sleep-wake homeostasis. Continue to watch for your baby’s sleepy cues during the daytime and try to put them down for a nap according to cues instead of a wake window chart.
